The Augustinians
“We are one heart and one mind, intent upon God.”
St Augustine
The Catholic Community of North Harbour is entrusted to the pastoral care of the Order of Saint Augustine (OSA) — the Augustinians.

Inspired by Saint Augustine of Hippo, one of the great saints and teachers of the Church, the Augustinians are guided by a spirituality centred on community, friendship, prayer, and the shared search for God. Saint Augustine gives voice to this longing in his well‑known words:
“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

Founded in the 13th century, the Order of Saint Augustine serves the Church throughout the world in parishes, schools, universities, missions, and chaplaincies. Augustinians unite communal life, pastoral ministry, and reflection, believing that faith is best lived and grown in community.

The Augustinians at North Harbour

At North Harbour, the Augustinian friars live and minister among the people they serve. Rooted in community life, they are committed to journeying with parishioners through every stage of life, offering pastoral care that is approachable, compassionate, and grounded in prayer.

The Augustinian presence shapes North Harbour as a welcoming faith community marked by:
-
a strong sense of belonging
-
thoughtful preaching and teaching
-
collaboration between clergy and parishioners
-
openness to dialogue and understanding
-
care for families, young people, and the vulnerable

Within the boundaries of the Catholic Community of North Harbour is St Augustine’s College, Brookvale, an important expression of the Augustinian commitment to education. The College reflects the Order’s long‑standing dedication to forming young people in faith, character, learning, and service, and maintains strong links with the local parish and wider community.

Through their shared life, pastoral leadership, and involvement in both parish and educational ministry, the Augustinian friars continue to nurture North Harbour as a place where faith is lived, relationships are strengthened, and Christ is encountered in everyday life.
