Holy Orders & Religious Life
“Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”
Matthew 4:19
God continues to call people to serve the Church in many beautiful and life‑giving ways. Some are called to priesthood, some to religious life, and others to the permanent diaconate. Each vocation is a unique response to God’s love and a generous offering of one’s life for the good of the Church and the world.

At North Harbour Parish, we are blessed by our Augustinian heritage. Our parish has welcomed many Augustinians over the years — including Pope Leo XIV, who visited our community many times during his service as Prior General of the Order. His leadership, humility, and deep love for the Church continue to inspire those discerning a vocation today.

Religious Life
(Augustinians and other Orders)
A religious priest or brother belongs to a religious order, such as the Augustinians. Religious take vows and live in community, sharing prayer, ministry, and daily life according to the spirituality of their order. An Augustinian is a religious who follows the Rule of St Augustine, emphasising community, friendship, interiority, and service.

Permanent Diaconate
Permanent deacons are ordained ministers who serve in charity, liturgy, and the proclamation of the Gospel. Many are married men who balance ministry with family and work.
If you sense that God may be inviting you to consider priesthood, religious life, or the diaconate — even gently, even quietly — we encourage you to reach out. A simple conversation can be the first step in discovering where God is leading you.

Diocesan Priesthood
A diocesan priest serves within a particular diocese — in our case, the Diocese of Broken Bay. He is appointed to parishes by the Bishop and ministers primarily through parish life, sacraments, and pastoral care.
